Auto Edit
Published · Updated · View as Markdown
Add your clips to Bang AI, press Auto Edit and pick a length. Bang AI reads what you said, keeps your strongest lines and cuts the silence, the repeated tries at a line and the lines that aren't clear, then gives you a new version to watch and fix. It works the same way on iPhone, the web and the Mac. An Auto Edit costs 40 credits, plus 10 for captions and 5 for spoken overlays.
Works on
- iPhone
- Web
- Mac
Bang AI is on iPhone, the web and the Mac.
Steps
- Press Make a Video and add your clips, or open a video and press New Version to cut the clips it already holds.
- Press Options and turn J and L Cuts, Remove Ums, Punch-in Zoom, Let AI Reorder, Captions and Spoken Overlays on or off.
- Pick a video length: Auto keeps every good line, Most ads aims for about 30 seconds, and Custom lets you pick any length from 10 seconds to 3 minutes.
- Press Auto Edit. The button shows what the version costs in credits before you spend any.
- Wait for the new version. It shows its progress as it goes: your uploads, then the words, then picking your best lines.
- Watch the new version, then open it in the editor to swap a clip, fix a caption or trim a line.
What Auto Edit cuts
Auto Edit works from the words in your clips and builds the video out of your best lines. Silence, repeated tries at a line and lines that aren't clear are always cut, whichever options you choose. Each place where one line ends and the next begins is a jump cut; the options below decide how those cuts sound and look.
Every Auto Edit makes a new version of the video, so trying other options never replaces a version you already have. On the Mac you can also start one from the menu bar with Video, then Re-cut.
The included options
These four cost nothing extra. Two of them are on when you start.
- J and L Cuts (on): your voice runs a moment past each cut, so one line flows into the next. See J cut and L cut.
- Remove Ums (on): cuts um, uh and erm out of your lines.
- Punch-in Zoom (off): zooms in after jump cuts, and slowly on long shots. See punch-in.
- Let AI Reorder (off): puts your lines in the best order. Leave it off when you filmed a script in the order you want it.
Captions and Spoken Overlays
Two extras add to the cost, and you choose them before the cut.
- Captions (10 credits, off when you start): word-by-word captions you can restyle. They are charged once per edit, and you change the look and fix words afterwards in the editor. See Captions.
- Spoken Overlays (5 credits): while filming, say "overlay" and a few words, like "overlay the before photo". Auto Edit cuts those words out and places the overlay from your library that matches best; when two match, the newest wins. It starts off for a new version, so check it's on before you press Auto Edit. With no overlays in your library there is no switch: the iPhone and Mac apps show an Add Overlays button, and the web says to add overlays first. See Spoken overlays.
Under Advanced, you set the shortest and longest time a spoken overlay stays on screen.
Video length
Auto keeps every good line, however long that makes the video. Most ads aims for about 30 seconds. Custom lets you pick any length from 10 seconds to 3 minutes, in 5-second steps.
With a length picked, Auto Edit keeps your strongest lines, your hook and your call to action, and drops the rest until the video is near your pick. It may land a few seconds over or under, so treat the length as a target rather than an exact cut.
What it costs
An Auto Edit costs 40 credits. Captions add 10 and Spoken Overlays add 5, so a typical video with both comes to 55 credits. The Auto Edit button shows the total before you press it, and if a version fails, its credits come back.
Trimming, swapping clips and exporting the finished version cost nothing. When your balance is short, the Auto Edit button becomes Get Credits and tells you how many the version needs. Credits shows where to see your balance and what else costs credits.
Ask your AI chat
With Bang AI added to ChatGPT, Claude or Claude Code, ask in your own words, or paste one of these:
Auto edit my clips into a short video
ChatGPT only. Opens Bang AI's Auto Edit card in the chat: pick your clips from your computer, upload them and press Auto Edit. The card shows your credits and the cost first.
Make a 30-second video from my clips with captions on
ChatGPT only. Opens the card set to 30 seconds with captions on, and you can change either before you press Auto Edit.
Auto edit my clips and call it 'Morning routine'
ChatGPT only. Names the new video, so it is easy to find among your videos later.
Cut the line where I say 'anyway'
ChatGPT, Claude and Claude Code, on a video you've already cut. Cuts that line from the saved video; ask "Bring that line back" to put it back.
Remove all the ums
All three chats. Cuts the filler words left in a saved video. Removed fillers don't come back from the chat.
Use a different recording of the opening line
All three chats. Swaps the opening for another recording of the same line, when you filmed it more than once.

Limits
- Auto Edit understands English and Spanish speech, and it is made for videos where you talk to the camera.
- A version holds up to 50 clips. Each clip's sound can be up to 30 minutes long; on the web, a longer clip uploads without its sound.
- A Custom length runs from 10 seconds to 3 minutes, and the cut may land a few seconds over or under it.
- Silence, repeated tries at a line and unclear lines are always cut. No option keeps them.
- In the iPhone and Mac apps, Batch Auto Edit cuts up to 20 videos at once.
- From a chat, only ChatGPT can start an Auto Edit, and only through its card: the chat never receives your files.
Troubleshooting
- Couldn't cut: no speech found.
- Auto Edit cuts by what you say, so it needs clips where you talk in English or Spanish. Check the clips have sound, then run it again. Your credits are back.
- A clip is still uploading.
- The version waits for every upload before it cuts. On the web, keep the tab open until your clips are in; if it closes, add the same files again and Bang AI picks up where it left off.
- Couldn't cut: a clip was deleted.
- A clip the version used was deleted before the cut. Add it back or leave it out, then press Auto Edit again. Your credits are back.
- Couldn't cut it.
- Your credits are back. Press Try Again; if it fails a second time, contact support from Settings, then Help.
- The Auto Edit button says Get Credits.
- Your balance is below what this version needs. Turn off Captions or Spoken Overlays to lower the cost, or get more credits.
- A version can use up to 50 clips.
- Split the clips across two videos, or leave out the ones you don't need, then press Auto Edit.
- The video is longer or shorter than the length I picked.
- A length is a target, and the cut may land a few seconds either side. Pick Custom and move it, or pick Auto to keep every good line.
Questions, answered.
How long until my Auto Edit is ready?
It depends on your clips and how fast they upload. The version shows where it is: waiting for uploads, then getting the words, then picking your best lines.
Which languages does Auto Edit understand?
English and Spanish. It cuts by the words you say, so it suits videos where you talk to the camera in either language.
Can I run Auto Edit again with other options?
Yes. Open the video and press New Version, or Re-cut in the apps once it has a version. Each run makes another version and costs credits again, and the versions you have stay.
Can Claude start an Auto Edit?
No. Only ChatGPT can, through Bang AI's Auto Edit card. In Claude and Claude Code, make the first cut in Bang AI, then ask the chat to cut a line, remove ums or swap in another recording.
What happens to my credits if a cut fails?
They come back. A version that couldn't be cut, because no speech was found, a clip was deleted or anything else went wrong, returns every credit it cost.
