Captions
Published · Updated · View as Markdown
Turn on Captions in the Auto Edit options, and Bang AI writes word-by-word captions from what you said, for 10 credits, charged once per edit. Then open the version in the editor to pick a look, fix a word or add keywords and emoji. Captions are burned into the video you export, and on iPhone and the Mac, Export Pack makes copies with and without them. They work the same way on iPhone, the web and the Mac.
Works on
- iPhone
- Web
- Mac
Bang AI is on iPhone, the web and the Mac.
Steps
- In Auto Edit, press Options and turn on Captions, or open a version in the editor and choose the Captions tool or + Add captions.
- Pick a look on the Looks tab, then change the font, style, animation and pacing on the other tabs.
- Turn on Hide ums and uhs to keep filler words out of the captions.
- Fix a wrong word: tap the caption in the iPhone and Mac apps, or select it and press Edit words on the web.
- Open Highlight style to set keywords, a keyword colour and emoji, and press Refresh AI marks to find them again.
- Export. The captions are burned in, and Export Pack on iPhone and the Mac also makes copies without them.
Add captions
The quickest way is before the cut: press Options in Auto Edit and turn on Captions ("Word-by-word captions you can restyle."). It starts off, and it adds 10 credits to the version.
For a version cut without them, open it in the editor and choose the Captions tool, or press + Add captions on the timeline. Captions cost 10 credits once per edit. On an edit cut without them, you pay the first time you ask for AI keywords and emoji, and Bang AI asks first with "Find keywords and emoji?". After that, keywords and emoji on that edit are free.
Pick a look
The Captions panel has four tabs: Looks, Fonts, Styles and Effects.
- Looks: Pop, Karaoke, Plate, Caps, Subtitle, Bubble, Aesthetic, Neon, Typewriter, One word, Clean and Spotlight.
- Animations: None, Pop, Fade, Slide up, Typewriter or Bounce.
- Pacing: One word, Phrase or Lines at a time.
Use Apply to all captions to restyle every caption at once, and Make default for new edits to start your next videos in the same look. Hide ums and uhs, at the end of Looks, keeps filler words out of the captions. To cut them from the sound too, leave Remove Ums on in Auto Edit; Remove filler words from video explains how that works.
Fix a word
Captions come from what Auto Edit heard, so a name or a brand can come out wrong. In the iPhone and Mac apps, tap a caption to fix its words. On the web, select the caption and press Edit words.
A word's own menu goes further: Hide word, Supersize, Colour, Emoji and Timing, and on the web Join with the caption before and New caption from here. A caption's words are the script's words, so typing a fix into a line in the script fixes the caption too.
Keywords and emoji
Highlight style picks out the words that matter. Keywords colours them in a keyword colour you choose, Emoji adds emoji beside them (Off, Some or Lots), and Spoken word marks each word as you say it.
Press Refresh AI marks to have Bang AI find the keywords and emoji again. It replaces only the AI's own marks: a word you marked, or cleared, keeps what you chose. Keywords and emoji are included once the edit's captions are paid for, so refreshing them again costs nothing. AI emphasis runs only in Bang AI, not from a chat.
Exporting with captions
Captions are burned into the video, so they show wherever you post it, with nothing to upload alongside. Bang AI doesn't export SRT or VTT caption files.
On iPhone and the Mac, Export Pack makes six videos at once: 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1, each with and without captions, so you have a clean copy for a platform that adds its own. The web exports one shape at a time.
Ask your AI chat
With Bang AI added to ChatGPT, Claude or Claude Code, ask in your own words, or paste one of these:
Turn captions on and use the Karaoke look
ChatGPT, Claude and Claude Code. Shows the captions on the saved video in the Karaoke look.
Change 'their' to 'there' in the captions
All three chats. Fixes the word in the captions and the script.
Make the captions bigger and move them lower
All three chats. Resizes and moves every caption.
Split the caption at the word 'because'
All three chats. Starts a new caption at that word.
Make the word 'free' a super keyword with a 🔥
All three chats. Marks that one word by hand. A chat can't run the AI's keywords and emoji for the whole video.
Hide the ums and uhs in the captions
All three chats. Keeps filler words out of the captions, and they stay in the sound.

Limits
- Captions are burned into the video. Bang AI doesn't export SRT or VTT files.
- Captions cost 10 credits once per edit: in an Auto Edit with Captions on, or the first time you ask for AI keywords and emoji on an edit cut without them. Keywords and emoji are included after that.
- AI keywords and emoji (Refresh AI marks) run only in Bang AI. A chat can mark words by hand but can't run them.
- Captions follow the words Auto Edit heard, in English or Spanish.
- Export Pack, which makes copies without captions, is on iPhone and the Mac. The web exports one shape at a time.
- Each caption edit from a chat saves over the video, and the chat can't undo it. Undo works in the web editor only when the video is open there as the edit lands.
Troubleshooting
- A caption shows the wrong word.
- Tap the caption in the iPhone and Mac apps, or select it and press Edit words on the web, then type the fix. Fixing the line in the script works too.
- Ums and uhs show in the captions.
- Turn on Hide ums and uhs at the end of the Looks tab. To cut them from the sound as well, leave Remove Ums on in Auto Edit.
- Find keywords and emoji? asks for credits.
- This edit's captions aren't paid for yet. Find charges 10 credits once, and keywords and emoji on that edit are free after that.
- No marks came back.
- Refresh AI marks found nothing to mark. Check the captions have words, then press it again, or mark the words you want by hand from the word menu.
- A one-word caption can't be split.
- Splitting needs two words or more. Join it with the caption before instead, or change its timing from the word menu.
- I need a copy without captions.
- On iPhone or the Mac, use Export Pack: it makes each shape with and without captions.
Questions, answered.
How much do captions cost?
10 credits, once per edit. Keywords, emoji, restyling and fixing words on that edit cost nothing more.
Can I get an SRT or VTT file?
No. Bang AI burns captions into the video. For a copy without them, use Export Pack on iPhone or the Mac.
Will Refresh AI marks undo my changes?
No. It replaces only the marks the AI made. A word you marked, coloured or cleared keeps what you chose.
Can my AI chat fix captions?
Yes. ChatGPT, Claude and Claude Code can change the look, fix or split a line and mark a word with a colour or emoji. They can't run AI keywords and emoji.
Which languages do captions support?
Captions come from the words Auto Edit hears, and it understands English and Spanish.
