Free safe-zone checker

# Will the app cover your caption?

Drop a frame or a video to see where TikTok, Reels and Shorts put their buttons, names and captions over it, and where your text is safe on all three.

**Your frame never leaves this device.** It’s drawn right here in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or saved.

## How to check your safe zones

Before you post, or before you film.

1. **Drop a frame or a video** A screenshot from your edit, an exported video or a still of your setup. Any size works; 1080 × 1920 is a full 9:16 screen.
2. **Pick the apps** Tick TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Each app’s clear area is outlined in its colour, and what any of them covers is shaded.
3. **Find the dashed box** It’s the area no picked app covers. Keep your captions, product and face inside it.
4. **Scrub a video** Play it or drag the slider to check every caption, not just the first frame.

## Where the areas come from

Each app changes its screen now and then, so these are guides, not pixel-exact outlines. Checked on November 1, 2026.

## Safe zones, answered.

**What is a safe zone on TikTok, Reels and Shorts?**

It’s the part of a 9:16 video that the app doesn’t cover with its own buttons, name, caption or top bar. Text and faces inside it stay visible; anything outside it can sit under a like button or a caption.

**Where do the areas come from?**

Instagram Reels uses Meta’s Reels ad specs: 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side. YouTube Shorts uses Google’s vertical safe-zone template for YouTube ads. TikTok publishes its safe zone only as template files, so its areas here are Socialync’s and AdKit’s readings of that template, approximate and on the generous side.

**Is the TikTok area exact?**

No. TikTok gives its safe zone as downloadable ad templates rather than figures, so the checker uses two third-party readings of the template and keeps the buttons column’s width for the whole height. Text inside the area stays clear; some just outside it may be fine too.

**What if my video isn’t 9:16?**

The checker fits it whole inside the 9:16 screen, with bars above and below a wide video or beside a square one, and the covered areas stay where they are on the screen. Each app may crop or fit it differently, so film 9:16 when you can.

**Is my video uploaded?**

No. The checker draws your frame in your browser, so the file never leaves this device. Nothing is sent or saved.

## Want the whole video cut for you?

Film your script and press Auto Edit. Bang AI cuts the ums, pauses and false starts, adds captions and drops in your product shots. Bang AI is on iPhone, the web and the Mac.
