## How to find the pauses in a clip

No account, nothing to install.

1. **Drop your clip** A video from your phone or a voice recording. Your browser reads its sound; long clips need a moment.
2. **Set the shortest pause** 0.5 seconds catches the dead air viewers notice. Lower it to catch every breath, raise it to see only long stops.
3. **Set what counts as quiet** Measured down from the loudest moment in your clip. Move it toward 20 dB if room noise hides your pauses.
4. **Read the list** Every pause with its start, end and length, and the total. Tap one to hear it.

**What counts as a pause?**

A stretch of your clip at least as long as the shortest pause you set, where the sound stays quieter than your quiet level. The gaps between words are shorter than that, so they don’t count.

**Why measure quiet from the loudest moment?**

A quiet recording and a loud one then find the same pauses. 35 dB under your loudest moment is well under speech and above most room noise.

**Which files work?**

Any clip up to 300 MB that your browser can play: MP4 and MOV from a phone, M4A, MP3 and WAV. The whole file is read into memory, so for a longer video, trim it or export just its sound first.
