# Tutorial video template

Published November 1, 2026 · Updated November 1, 2026

A short tutorial teaches one thing in under a minute or two, and this template gives it five beats: the result first, what you need, the steps, the mistake to avoid and the check. Film it to camera with one clip per step, and Bang AI, the AI video editor for people who talk to the camera on iPhone, the web and the Mac, cuts the pauses and the restarts while keeping the steps in the order you taught them.

Bang AI is on iPhone, the web and the Mac.

## How to use it

1. Write the result in one line, then three to five steps that each start with a verb, and the most common mistake.
2. Film the result, then each step as its own clip, and film close-ups of your hands separately.
3. Add the clips to Bang AI, leave Let AI Reorder off, pick Auto as the length and turn on Captions.
4. Press Auto Edit and watch the version, checking that every step is still there.
5. On iPhone or the web, extract a talking clip's audio and Replace its picture with the close-up where it helps, then export.

## Variations

### The app tutorial

Steps in an app, with screenshots placed as spoken overlays and your face in the frame between them.

**When to use it:** Tech creators, app reviews and teachers showing a tool.

### The quick fix

One problem, one fix, under 30 seconds: the problem, the fix shown once and the result.

**When to use it:** A question your followers or customers keep asking.

### The product how-to

How to use a product properly, from opening it to the result, with the mistake most buyers make.

**When to use it:** UGC for brands whose customers need showing, like skincare routines or kitchen gadgets.

## Putting it to work

- Film steps in the order you teach them, so the cut needs no rearranging.
- Light the hands as well as the face; a close-up in shadow teaches nothing.
- On iPhone and the Mac, Export Pack makes 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1 together, so the same tutorial fits a feed post too.

## The five beats

1. **Show the result.** Open on the finished thing: "This is how to fold a fitted sheet into a square." The viewer decides in seconds if it's what they searched for.
2. **What you need.** One line, only if it matters: a tool, an app, five minutes.
3. **The steps.** Three to five, one per clip, each starting with a verb: "Tuck", "Fold", "Smooth".
4. **The mistake.** The one thing almost everyone gets wrong, and how to spot it.
5. **The check.** How the viewer knows they did it right, then where to find more.

## Keeping the steps in order

A tutorial only works in its own order. In the [Auto Edit](https://morebangers.com/help/auto-edit/) options, leave Let AI Reorder off, which is how it starts, and your steps stay in the order you filmed them. Pick Auto to keep every good line, since cutting a step makes a tutorial useless; use a Custom length only when you know each step is short.

Say each step's first word clearly. Auto Edit cuts silence and your repeated tries at a line, so if you fumble "fold the corners in", say it again rather than stopping.

## Showing the hands, keeping the voice

Most tutorials need a close-up of the thing being done. Film it as its own clip. On iPhone and the web, if you used Extract audio on your talking clip, Replace changes only the picture, so the close-up plays while your explanation keeps going; see [swap a clip](https://morebangers.com/help/swap-a-clip/).

For a still, such as a settings screen, add it to your Overlays library, name it, and say "overlay" and the name while you film. With Spoken Overlays on, Auto Edit places it beside that sentence. [B-roll examples](https://morebangers.com/examples/b-roll-examples/) has more on which shot goes with which line.

## Questions, answered.

**How long should a short tutorial video be?**

Long enough for every step and no longer. Most single-skill tutorials fit in 30 to 90 seconds; if yours runs past three minutes, split it into parts.

**Should I show the result at the start or the end?**

At the start, and again at the end. Opening on the result tells viewers it's the tutorial they wanted; closing on it lets them check their own.

**Will Bang AI cut one of my steps?**

It can: a picked length drops weaker lines, and a line that isn't clear is cut. Pick Auto to keep every good line, and watch the version before you export.

**Can I add the steps as captions?**

Turn on Captions and your spoken steps are captioned word by word. Colour each step's first word as a keyword so the verbs stand out.
