# Storytime video template

Published November 1, 2026 · Updated November 1, 2026

A storytime video is one person telling a true story straight to the camera, and this template gives it four beats: a cold open, the setup, the turn and the payoff. Film it in short pieces, say the punchline more than once, and let Bang AI, the AI video editor for people who talk to the camera on iPhone, the web and the Mac, cut the pauses and the restarts so the story moves as fast as you'd tell it to a friend.

Bang AI is on iPhone, the web and the Mac.

## How to use it

1. Write the story in five lines: cold open, setup, turn, payoff, and one line on what you'd tell someone else.
2. Film each beat as its own clip, at eye level, and say the turn and the payoff more than once.
3. Add the clips to Bang AI, leave Let AI Reorder off, turn on Captions and, if you like, Punch-in Zoom, then pick Auto or a Custom length.
4. Press Auto Edit and watch the new version. Swap in another recording of the punchline if you prefer it.
5. Export and post. On iPhone and the Mac, Export Pack makes 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1 together.

## Variations

### The product storytime

The story is how you found or used the product: the problem, the moment it worked, and where it is now.

**When to use it:** Brand deals and TikTok Shop videos where a plain review would feel like an ad.

### The story in parts

A story told in parts, each video ending on what happened next, with the next part promised at the end.

**When to use it:** When the story is too long for one video and viewers will want to follow it.

### The lesson storytime

A short story told to make one point, closing on the lesson rather than the punchline.

**When to use it:** Coaches, teachers and founders who want a tip to land through a real moment.

## Putting it to work

- Hold the phone at eye level and keep the framing the same between clips, so the cuts read as one telling.
- If you show a photo or screenshot from the story, add it to your Overlays library and say "overlay" and its name while you film; turn on Spoken Overlays before you press Auto Edit.
- Silence and your repeated tries at a line are cut in every Auto Edit, so restart a sentence freely rather than stopping the recording.

## The four beats

1. **Cold open.** Start inside the story, at its strangest or worst moment: "The hotel had given our room to someone else, and it was midnight." No greeting, no "so, storytime".
2. **Setup.** Rewind just enough to make the opening make sense: who, where, what you expected.
3. **The turn.** The moment it changed. Slow down here, because it is the part people stay for.
4. **Payoff.** How it ended and the one thing you'd tell someone else. A product, if there is one, lives here, as part of how it ended rather than an ad stuck on the end.

## Keeping a long story tight

Storytimes run long because every detail feels important while you tell it. Before you film, write the story in five lines and cross out anything the payoff doesn't need. On camera, the first try is usually slow and the third is the one you'd post.

In Bang AI, pick Auto as the length to keep every good line, or Custom to aim for a length; a picked length keeps your hook and your call to action and drops weaker lines until the video is near it. Leave Let AI Reorder off, so the story stays in the order you told it.

## Giving one shot some movement

A storytime is usually one framing for a minute or more, which can feel static. Turn on Punch-in Zoom in the [Auto Edit](https://morebangers.com/help/auto-edit/) options; it starts off. It zooms in after jump cuts and slowly on long shots, so the frame moves with the story. See [punch-in](https://morebangers.com/glossary/punch-in/) for when a zoom helps.

Captions help too: a look that highlights each word as you say it keeps a muted viewer reading through the setup to the turn.

## Questions, answered.

**How long should a storytime video be?**

As long as the story needs and no longer. Many work in 45 to 90 seconds; cut any line the payoff doesn't need, and start on the most surprising moment.

**Can a storytime video sell a product?**

Yes, when the product is part of how the story ended. Put it in the payoff, said in your own words, rather than as an ad read after the story.

**Will Bang AI change the order of my story?**

Not while Let AI Reorder is off, which is how it starts. Your lines stay in the order you filmed them, with the pauses and restarts cut.

**What if I tell the punchline better on another try?**

Say it as many times as you like. If Auto Edit picked a try you like less, tap the badge on that clip in the editor and swap in another recording.
