# Before and after video template

Published November 1, 2026 · Updated November 1, 2026

A before and after video works when the viewer sees the change before they hear the story of it. This template gives you five beats to film for a 30 to 45 second transformation: the result, the starting point, what you changed, the honest middle and who it suits. You talk to the camera, and your before and after photos appear on screen when you say so: in Bang AI, say "overlay the before photo" while filming and Auto Edit places it on that line.

Bang AI is on iPhone, the web and the Mac.

## How to use it

1. Shoot the before and after photos in the same light, from the same spot, and crop them to one shape.
2. Add both to your Overlays library and rename them "before photo" and "after photo".
3. Film each of the five beats as its own short clip, saying "overlay" and the photo's name where it should appear.
4. Upload the clips to Bang AI, turn on Spoken Overlays and Captions, leave Let AI Reorder off and press Auto Edit.
5. Watch the new version, move or retime a photo in the editor if needed, then export.

## Variations

### The split reveal

Skip the after in the opening line and save it for the last beat, so the video builds to the change instead of starting from it.

**When to use it:** When the change is dramatic enough that the wait is the hook, such as a room makeover or a hair colour.

### The weekly check-in

Add one photo per week as its own overlay, named "week one", "week two" and so on, and say one line over each.

**When to use it:** For slow changes like skin, fitness or a garden, where the steps in between tell the story.

## Putting it to work

- Name each overlay with the exact words you'll say. When two overlays match as well as each other, the newest one wins, so delete old before photos you no longer use.
- If a photo flashes past on a short line, raise the shortest time under Advanced, in How long spoken overlays stay up.
- Film the middle beat even if you plan to cut it: it is often the line that makes the rest believable.

## Five beats, from result to routine

1. **Open on the after.** "This is my skin eight weeks in. Here's where I started." The finished result is the hook.
2. **The before.** Say "overlay the before photo" and describe what bothered you about it, in plain words.
3. **What you changed.** The product, the routine or the habit, and how often you used it.
4. **The middle.** How long it was before you noticed anything, and what was annoying along the way.
5. **Who it's for.** "overlay the after photo", one line on who should try it, and where your link or code is.

## Why the result comes first

Viewers scroll past a video that opens on a problem they can't see yet. Leading with the after gives them the reason to stay, and the before that follows turns a nice photo into a change they can measure with their own eyes. The middle beat matters more than it looks: admitting that the first weeks were slow makes the result believable, and it sets fair expectations for anyone who buys. Showing the after again at the end closes the loop just before you ask for anything.

## Matching the two photos

A transformation only reads when the two pictures are taken the same way. Use the same light, the same distance, the same angle and no filter on either. If you are starting the routine now, shoot the before photo today and write down where you stood. Crop both images to the same shape before you add them, so the change is in your face, your room or your body, not in the framing.

## Calling up the photos with your voice

Add both photos to your Overlays library: in the iPhone and Mac apps with Add from Photos or Add from Files, and on the web from the editor's Image tool. Rename them "before photo" and "after photo", because Bang AI matches what you say to an overlay's name first. When you film, say "overlay" and the name, then keep talking. Auto Edit cuts the cue words, so viewers never hear them, and shows the photo beside that sentence, clear of your face. Turn on Spoken Overlays in the Auto Edit options before you press the button: it starts off for a new version. [Spoken overlays](https://morebangers.com/help/spoken-overlays/) has the details, including how long each photo stays up.

## How Bang AI cuts the transformation

Upload the clips on iPhone, the web or the Mac and press Auto Edit. Leave J and L Cuts and Remove Ums on, and leave Let AI Reorder off so the after still opens the video. Punch-in Zoom adds movement between beats if you filmed one framing. Pick Most ads for about 30 seconds, or a Custom length: with a length picked, Auto Edit keeps your hook and your call to action and drops weaker lines until it is near your pick. Turn on Captions for word-by-word text, then export. On iPhone and the Mac, Export Pack makes 9:16, 4:5 and 1:1 copies, each with and without captions; the web exports one shape at a time.

## Questions, answered.

**Do I need video of the before, or is a photo enough?**

A photo is enough. Most people only have a still from the starting point, and a clear photo shown on screen beside your words reads well in a short video.

**Why didn't my before photo show up where I said it?**

Check that Spoken Overlays was on for that version, since it starts off, and that the photo's name shares words with what you said. Then press New Version.

**How long should a before and after video be?**

Around 30 to 45 seconds suits most transformations. A length target in Auto Edit keeps the opening result and your closing line while trimming the middle.

**Can I use the same template for a room, a car or a garden?**

Yes. The beats work for anything that changes over time. Swap the routine beat for what you did to the space, and keep both photos framed the same way.

**What should I avoid saying in a skincare or fitness transformation?**

Stick to what you saw and felt yourself. If a brand sends required wording for its claims, say it word for word and put your own story around it.
