# App review video template

Published November 1, 2026 · Updated November 1, 2026

An app review lives or dies on the screen: viewers want to see the one thing the app does while you tell them why it matters. This template is five beats for a 30 to 45 second review, filmed to camera, with the app shown two ways in Bang AI: screenshots that appear when you say "overlay" and their name, and a screen recording laid over a line you already filmed, keeping your voice.

Bang AI is on iPhone, the web and the Mac.

## How to use it

1. Choose the one task you'll show, and write a line for each of the five beats.
2. Capture a screenshot of every screen you'll mention, add them to your Overlays library and name each one with the words you'll say.
3. Make a screen recording of the task from open to done.
4. Film the five beats to camera, saying "overlay" and a screenshot's name on the line it belongs to.
5. Upload the clips, turn on Spoken Overlays and Captions, and press Auto Edit.
6. In the editor, extract the audio of the flow clip, press Replace and pick the screen recording, then export.

## Variations

### The week of use

Film the job and the verdict after a week with the app, and use screenshots from different days to show how you used it.

**When to use it:** For habit, budgeting and fitness apps, where the value shows up over time rather than in one tap.

### Three features, three screens

Replace the one-flow beat with three short lines, each with its own screenshot overlay.

**When to use it:** When the brief asks you to cover several features and a full walkthrough of each would run too long.

## Putting it to work

- Turn on Do Not Disturb before you record the screen, so no notification ends up in the video.
- Make the screen recording a little longer than the line you'll lay it over: a replacement shorter than the clip is marked Too short.
- Crop personal details out of screenshots before you add them, since overlays join a library you use on every device.

## What an app review needs that a product review doesn't

A physical product can sit in your hand for the whole video. An app can't, and a phone held up to the lens is hard to read. So the talking shot carries your opinion and the screen carries the proof, and the edit has to switch between them on the right words. Plan which line each screen belongs to before you film. Everything else in this template follows from that.

## Beat by beat

1. **The job.** "This app plans my whole week of meals in two minutes." Name what it does, not what it's called.
2. **The before.** How you did it before, and what was annoying about that.
3. **The one flow.** Walk through a single task on screen, from open to done. One task, not a tour.
4. **The limit.** Something it doesn't do, or who it isn't for.
5. **The verdict.** Whether you'd keep it, and where to find it.

## Screenshots on the right line

Capture a clean screenshot of each screen you'll mention: the home screen, the result, the setting you love. Add them to your Overlays library with Add from Photos or Add from Files in the iPhone and Mac apps, or from the web editor's Image tool. Rename each one with the words you'll say, such as "home screen" or "weekly plan". While filming, say "overlay the weekly plan" and carry on. With Spoken Overlays on in the Auto Edit options, Bang AI cuts those cue words and shows the screenshot beside that sentence, placed clear of your face. See [spoken overlays](https://morebangers.com/help/spoken-overlays/) for how names are matched.

## A screen recording over your voice

For the one-flow beat, a screen recording shows more than a still. Film the beat to camera first, describing each tap. Then, in the editor, use Extract audio on that clip, select it and press Replace. Because the sound was extracted, Replace changes only the picture: the new clip goes in muted and Bang AI says Clip replaced, its sound stays.

- **On the web**, Replace Clip lets you pick the screen recording from Your clips or From your computer. Slide to line it up, then press Use these.
- **On iPhone**, Replace opens the camera instead, to film a new clip in the window.

The replacement must be at least as long as the clip it replaces; a shorter one is marked Too short. The Mac app doesn't offer Replace. Replacing costs no credits. [Swap a clip](https://morebangers.com/help/swap-a-clip/) covers the rest.

## Cutting the review

Upload your talking clips on iPhone, the web or the Mac and press Auto Edit with J and L Cuts and Remove Ums on. Punch-in Zoom helps the talking shots between screens feel less static. Leave Let AI Reorder off if the flow beat walks through steps in order. A length target keeps your hook and your verdict while trimming the rest. Turn on Captions, and check the app's name in them: a name Auto Edit misheard is fixed by tapping the caption in the apps, or with Edit words on the web.

## Questions, answered.

**Should I show the app's name in the first line?**

Lead with what it does for you. The name means little until the viewer cares, so put it in the verdict, or on screen in a screenshot.

**Where does the screen recording come from?**

Record it on the phone or computer that runs the app, with that device's own screen recording. Then, on the web, Replace Clip picks it from Your clips or From your computer.

**Why did my screen recording replace my voice too?**

The clip's audio wasn't extracted first. Undo to put the old clip back, use Extract audio on it, then press Replace again so only the picture changes.

**How do I keep a screenshot from covering my face?**

Spoken overlays are placed clear of your face. If one still lands badly, move or retime it in the editor after the cut, at no cost.

**How long should an app review video be?**

Around 30 to 45 seconds for one task shown well. If you want to cover more features, make a separate short video for each one.
