# UGC hook examples

Published November 1, 2026 · Updated November 1, 2026

A good UGC hook is one sentence, said to the lens, that gives one kind of viewer a reason to hear the second sentence. Below are nine UGC hook examples for beauty, fitness and tech, sorted into five kinds: questions, bold claims, confessions, callouts and lines you say while showing the product first. We wrote every line for this page, so borrow the shape and put your product in it. After the examples: how to pick one, how to say it, and how Bang AI keeps your opening line in the video when you cut it down to 30 seconds.

## Examples

### "I almost returned this serum"

"I almost returned this serum after day two. I'm really glad I didn't." Said straight to the lens with the bottle held at chest height.

**Why it works:** It opens a story with a turn already in it, so the viewer stays to hear what changed. Starting from doubt also makes the praise that follows sound earned.

- Beauty and skincare
- Confession

### "If your foundation looks patchy by lunch"

"If your foundation looks patchy by lunch, this one is for you." Filmed in daylight with one cheek turned toward the window.

**Why it works:** It names one person and one problem. The right viewer recognises themselves in the first breath, and anyone it doesn't fit was never going to buy.

- Beauty and skincare
- Callout

### Half done, half bare

Open on your face with the tint on one side only and say: "One side has the new tint. Guess which."

**Why it works:** The picture asks the question before the words do, and a guessing game keeps the viewer looking until you answer it.

- Beauty and skincare
- Show first

### "Still mixing shakes with a spoon?"

"Are you still mixing protein shakes with a spoon?" Asked while holding up a spoon caked in powder.

**Why it works:** A yes-or-no question about a habit makes the viewer answer in their head. The shaker bottle then arrives as the answer, not as an advert.

- Fitness and supplements
- Question

### "I skipped leg day for a year"

"I skipped leg day for a whole year. This is what got me back." Filmed at the gym in workout clothes, a little out of breath.

**Why it works:** Admitting a lapse makes you easy to relate to, and "what got me back" promises a specific answer the rest of the video delivers.

- Fitness and supplements
- Confession

### "Twenty seconds, no clumps"

Start mid-pour with the scoop going into the shaker and say: "Twenty seconds of shaking, no clumps. Watch."

**Why it works:** Movement in the first frame catches the eye before the ear, and "watch" asks for exactly what you want from the viewer: the next few seconds.

- Fitness and supplements
- Show first

### "This app replaced three things on my phone"

"This one app replaced my sticky notes, my to-do list and my calendar." Said with the phone held beside your face, screen toward the lens.

**Why it works:** Three named things make the claim concrete, and they give the rest of the video an obvious order: show each one.

- Tech, apps and gadgets
- Bold claim

### "Freelancers who invoice from their phone"

"Freelancers who send invoices from their phone: give me ten seconds." Filmed at a café table with a laptop shut beside you.

**Why it works:** It speaks to one job and one chore, and asking for a small, exact amount of time feels like a fair trade to the viewer it names.

- Tech, apps and gadgets
- Callout

### "Did you know your charger can do this?"

"Did you know your charger can do this?" Asked while the cable is already plugged into two devices at once.

**Why it works:** The question makes the viewer doubt something they own, and the answer is already on screen, so the proof and the hook land together.

- Tech, apps and gadgets
- Question

## What the first line has to do

The opening sentence has one job: earn the next one. It does that by making a promise the rest of the video keeps. A confession promises a turn in the story. A callout promises the video is about the viewer's own problem. A bold claim promises proof. A question promises an answer.

The promise has to be specific. "You need this" promises nothing. "This replaced three apps on my phone" promises a list of three things, and the viewer waits for it. If you can't say what your hook promises, the viewer can't either.

## Choosing a kind of hook for your product

- **Callout** when the product solves one clear problem for one kind of person, like patchy foundation or invoicing from a phone.
- **Show first** when the product is satisfying to watch: a pour, a texture, a gadget clicking into place.
- **Confession** when you were doubtful at first. It makes the praise later easier to believe.
- **Bold claim** when you can prove it on camera within a few seconds.
- **Question** when the viewer already has a habit you can poke at.

Write two hooks of different kinds for the same video and film both. You only learn which one suits the product by posting them.

## Saying it on camera

Start talking the moment you start the line, with no breath, no "so" and no wave. Look into the lens, not at your own face on the screen. Say the hook at the energy of your best line, then carry on at your normal pace. Keep your face in the first second; cut to the product after the hook, not during it.

Film the hook three or four times, changing the stress each time. "I almost returned this" with the weight on "almost" is a different video from one with the weight on "this". Short clips for each line keep every attempt low stakes.

## How Bang AI keeps your hook

When you pick a length in [Auto Edit](https://morebangers.com/help/auto-edit/), such as Most ads at about 30 seconds or a Custom length, Bang AI keeps your strongest lines, your hook and your call to action, and drops the rest until the video is near your pick. Silence, repeated tries and the ums around the hook are cut either way.

If you filmed your opening line several times, Auto Edit puts one recording in the video and keeps the others. In the editor, tap the badge on that clip to [swap in another recording](https://morebangers.com/help/swap-a-clip/) and hear the difference. Leave Let AI Reorder off when you filmed the lines in the order you want, so nothing else is moved ahead of your opening.

## Hooks that lose people

- Greetings and introductions: "Hey guys, so today I want to..." spends the first seconds on nothing.
- Promises the video doesn't keep, which teach viewers to scroll past you next time.
- Two hooks in one sentence. Pick the stronger promise and save the other for another video.
- Hiding your face behind the product during the opening line, when the viewer is deciding whether to trust you.
- Captions sitting over your mouth while you deliver the line. Move them lower.

## Questions, answered.

**How long should a UGC hook be?**

One sentence you can say in one breath. If you need a second sentence to make it make sense, the first one isn't doing its job yet.

**Should the hook mention the product's name?**

Usually not straight away. Name the problem, the doubt or the result first, then the product once the viewer cares what it is.

**Can I use one hook on several videos?**

Yes. Film the same hook in front of different middles, or film three hooks in front of one middle and post each as its own video to see which one you like best.

**Will Auto Edit cut my hook if the video is too long?**

No. With a length picked, Auto Edit keeps your hook and your call to action and drops weaker lines from the middle until the video is near the length.

**Should I put the hook in big text too?**

It helps people watching with the sound off. In Bang AI's captions you can Supersize a word from its menu or colour keywords, so the hook's main word stands out.
